 WELCOME TO SEWALL’S POINT!

Shaded by ancient oaks and surrounded on three sides by the St. Lucie River and the Indian River Lagoon, Sewall’s Point is known for its natural beauty.  Within our borders you will find excellent shopping, professional offices, and outstanding dining in addition to the beautiful parks, easy access to offshore fishing, and many cultural activities close by.  The Town is a designated bird sanctuary and has been a nationally recognized “Tree City” for over two decades.  Young or old, it is very difficult to find a better place to live, work and play than in Sewall’s Point!

  TOWN NEWS

With so many recent incidents involving cyclists and motorists, the Sewalls Point Police Department wants to remind motorists you are REQUIRED to give cyclists at least 3 feet of clearance when driving along side of or passing them. Also, when turning, yield to any bicyclist in the bike lane and make your turn behind the cyclist. Lets share the road together safely!

What about the people that walk in the road for exercise? Maybe ask them to use the sidewalks? I never see police enforcing that. Ever.

I continue see kids/adults riding in all dark clothing at dusk or later -especially under the banyan trees on S Sewall's Point Rd or almost anywhere on S. River Rd. PLEASE! It's very important to have something reflective on your body or flashers for your bike.

Sometimes the bike riders are endangering themselves too. Not riding single file, no hand signals, no lights, riding in opposite direction, not obeying traffic laws, running red lights, and not using the dedicated bike lane where it’s available. Yes it’s the law and the bike riders must obey the law too.

It would be nice if they would ticket cyclist for not following the same rules as motor vehicles. Stopping at stop signs stopping at red lights giving the right away when they are supposed to. If you want to be respected as a motor vehicle follow the same rules as everybody else. Huge pet peeve!

Please keep a sharp eye for the cyclists. They are always so vulnerable.
